MSU commemorates 55th Foundation Day

The Mindanao State University – Main Campus commemorated its 55th founding anniversary held at MSU Grandstand last September 1, 2016.
Different schools, colleges, fraternities and sororities and organizations sojourn the parade from Agha Khan to the venue despite of the extreme heat of the sun. The students and the faculty were very participative and attentive especially with their cheers and yells giving pride to their respective colleges. Their efforts, sacrifices and happiness were very priceless especially seeing them with a big curve on their faces holding different banners and 3Ds by way of representing themselves as one. Even during the parade, they enjoyed and had fun regardless of the aches from walking, standing and singing their yells at top of their souls.
In an interview, Norrie Lou Montes, a BS Biology student shared “Actually pamugasay nani gamay kay this will hopefully my last semester. So best effort! And we just really have to grasp what is us. This is what we are!”
Traditionally, in celebration of the foundation day, all dormitories had their Open-House which dormers utilize their creative minds to come up the best concept or theme of their respective dorms. This way, all students were welcome to have a view and eat whatever is on the table of the residents prepared.
With the bliss that has been felt, all were able to satisfy themselves.
This year’s theme was “MSU @ 55: In Partnership with the National Government in Pursuing Reforms towards Peace and Poverty Alleviation.”

A Shrewd Investor of Happiness

Telling your story is a profound way of letting other people knocks on your life’s door and letting them in with your experiences. . .
I grew up with a happy and complete family. A sister (youngest) who always listens to whatever feelings I have to express and she pays attention even if it is the most non-sense conversation in the world, which I like the most about her. A brother (elder) who always nags me every day, oh no, he doesn’t just nag me, he annoys me and won’t stop till I cry but hugs me and gives me chocolate when he sees I’m still mad at him because I can’t cry anymore. A brother (eldest) who serves as a model for us to follow, he always shows the will of a sibling to help the family’s business and teaches us how to lead on our own. A light of our home, my mother, who does everything just to see her children smile, who renders all her time to make us one and never gives up what life throws us. A father who has the determination, courage and the perseverance just to take us up to the firmament of love and of faith.
People might see me as a happy-go-lucky person and a chatter-box lady. They see me as a person having no problem for I always crack jokes to see others be glad and hear their laughters. The truth is, I got hurt and confused about the whole world. I had doubts with myself, inferiority complex indeed. Why? Because I was bullied. During grades school, I talked with myself and cried with myself praying to God that I would have a serious disease like cancer so I could have a short life (Now I ask myself, “Really? How many people do you think struggling to fight just to live?). So, I take back what I said. When I was in high school, I did everything I can to get on that comfort-zone. I joined different competitions (Journalism, Math and Science Jingle, etc.), became a president of a club and associated in a band  just to bring out the best I can because I can’t tell one in my family. I, perhaps, may thank all of those people who discriminated me with what I have and with who I am. I accepted theirs positively. If not because of it I may not be able to help myself. So I chose to be happy and optimistic.
When adversity strikes, it’s unstoppable. You just have to stay on the ground composed and firmed holding your shield without asking any questions. I was 13 years old when “it” happened, my parents were out of control handling the problem. It was then the time of my happy family’s separation. That was then the moment when “Jesus replied, “Believe me, if you trust and do not falter and you say to this mountain. Be lifted up and thrown into the sea, even that will happen. You will receive all that you pray for provided you have faith,” (Matt 21:21-22). Thus, I become a dreamer and a believer on that 360 degree life changing. I dream big!

I want to be a successful entrepreneur so I can provide the needs of my family might as well as the needs of the people. I want to be rich because I want to share the blessings that have been showered to me. I want to travel around the world with my whole family and experience the greatness of the creation. Most especially, I want to be a motivational speaker because I want to encourage listeners to strive hard and soar high and believe in everything they do.

With the grace of the Lord, who arms me strength and makes my path perfect, I am now a fouth year student taking the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Entrepreneurial Marketing in Mindanao State University-Main Campus, Marawi City. Way to go!
This has been Marryrose Palma Fernandico saying “Be a shrewd investor of happiness.”
